Have you ever felt like you were just meant to do something? That's kind of how I've always felt about drawing. From the ripe young age of 5, I knew that's what I wanted to do when I grew up. At that age, I spent free time tracing images out of my favorite story books. As I got older, I could copy images by looking at them, and as I learned how shapes and lines came together to make a picture, I started to create my own characters.
I'd often doodle on the margins of homework assignments and other school work, and in high school, a couple of my teachers took notice and encouraged me to apply to an art college. I took that chance, applied and was pretty darn excited when I found out I actually got in!
My biggest supporters though, were my grandparents. Without them, I wouldn't have had a chance at anything, much less being able to further my education. I don't think I'd ever be able to thank them enough for all the love and support they've given me through the years, and how much I've appreciated it. I only wish my grandma was still here to see Street Light Fairies come to life, to see what I was able to accomplish with her help and I hope that wherever she is, she is proud.
Because of them, I have had this incredible experience. I feel so lucky to have been part of this story! I absolutely loved bringing these mischievous and adorable characters to life and seeing their adventure unfold. Even though it's been a very long process, this book just goes to show that dreams really can come true as long as you stick with it and don't give up!
When I was first starting out in school, I never thought I'd get to do what I really loved for a job. And getting published... well that was always a wish at the back of my mind. And now I can say, after years of hard work and dedication, I've made my own dream come true too!
